What Causes an Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, occurring when the plantar fascia – a thick band of tissue supporting the arch – becomes inflamed or strained. This can result in sharp pain, especially with the first steps in the morning or after long periods of rest.
Common Causes of Plantar Fasciitis:
- Excessive strain on the plantar fascia – prolonged standing, running, or high-impact activities.
- Poor foot mechanics – flat feet, high arches, or improper gait..
- Inappropriate footwear – lack of arch support or unsupportive shoes.
- Tight calf muscles – restricting ankle movement and increasing strain.
Ignoring plantar fasciitis can lead to chronic pain and mobility issues. Addressing it early can help prevent long-term discomfort.
What are the Common Causes of an Plantar Fasciitis?
- Obesity, which puts extra pressure on the foot arch
- Sudden increase in physical activity, especially for a runner
- Flat feet or high arches that affect biomechanics
- Poor footwear or lack of arch support
- Differences in leg length
- Sports injuries or repetitive side-to-side movement
- Standing or walking on hard surfaces for long hours
These factors can lead to strain, inflammation, and ultimately degeneration of the fascia over time.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is a common and painful condition affecting the bottom of the foot, often caused by overuse of the plantar fascia—a thick, fibrous ligament that runs from the heel to the toes. It supports the foot arch and plays an important role in everyday movement. Repeated strain, especially from weight-bearing activity or sports injuries, can lead to tiny microtears and inflammatory reactions, causing pain in the heel area.
People who are regularly involved in high-impact activities like running, basketball, or tennis—or those who stand for extended periods—may be more likely to develop plantar fasciitis.

NewGreat experience at East Coast Podiatry (Orchard)! Had a persistent nail fungus issue over the last couple of years and it was solved so quickly and efficiently with the team. My podiatrist - Ms Peggy explained and assessed my condition in great detail, and recommended me the follow up actions required to get the issue all treated. Was an overall superb and pleasant treatment experience 🙂

We have been with Gerorgina for my daughter in-toes and flat foot issue. Gone through a thorough treatment, exercises, feet braces and we can see massive improvement in my daughter's posture and feet.
Georgina and the staff have been very helpful and making every visit smooth and pleasant. Keep up the good work!

Our 6-year-old son had very severe in-toeing when we first visited Dr. Michael in October 2024. We’re incredibly thankful for his expertise—after just 8 months of treatment, our son is now very close to having an ideal foot structure.
What we appreciated most was the all-in-one pricing—it covered everything from braces to follow-ups, making the treatment both convenient and great value for money. The clinic’s location in Orchard is also a big plus for accessibility. Highly recommend Dr. Michael, especially for concerned parents dealing with pediatric foot issues!
