I had a few podiatry treatments done out of 10. The male and female nurses are very good. 25/2 nurse Rochelle recommended the tape on me after the treatment which I felt extremely wonderful. I felt my knees like nothing had happened. Walking very comfortably with the tape after treatment.

I visited East Podiatry in Novena about three months ago as I was experiencing sharp pain on my left heel. It was affecting my running and walking. During my first consultation, Jordan accurately diagnosed the condition as Achilles tendonitis and recommended a shock wave therapy.. fast forward that three months later, the pain has dissipated. I am now able to resume my running. Jordan is very helpful and attuned to his patients' needs. I am a barefoot runner and he acknowledged that switching to regular shoes will not do me any good. I appreciate his frank advice. He also recommended exercises to help me with strengthening my toes and plantar muscles so as to prevent the Achilles tendonitis from recurring. His assistant, Ashley performed the shock wave treatment with precision and skills, as well. Overall, I am very happy with the treatment and service.

NewGreat experience at East Coast Podiatry (Orchard)! Had a persistent nail fungus issue over the last couple of years and it was solved so quickly and efficiently with the team. My podiatrist - Ms Peggy explained and assessed my condition in great detail, and recommended me the follow up actions required to get the issue all treated. Was an overall superb and pleasant treatment experience 🙂

Our 6-year-old son had very severe in-toeing when we first visited Dr. Michael in October 2024. We’re incredibly thankful for his expertise—after just 8 months of treatment, our son is now very close to having an ideal foot structure.
What we appreciated most was the all-in-one pricing—it covered everything from braces to follow-ups, making the treatment both convenient and great value for money. The clinic’s location in Orchard is also a big plus for accessibility. Highly recommend Dr. Michael, especially for concerned parents dealing with pediatric foot issues!

Struggling with Corns and Calluses?
Do you have thickened skin at the balls of your toes or at the back of your feet? That thickened skin might just be corns or calluses. These may seem harmless at the beginning but it can thicken and develop into sharp, persistent pain each time you take a step.
Foot corns and calluses can take on different forms, each with specific characteristics and area where are likely to appear:
- Hard Corns – Hard corns are the most encountered type, appearing as small, dense, and firm patches of thickened skin.
- Soft Corns – Soft corns as its name implies are softer in texture and are usually whitish or grey in appearance and commonly develop between the toes, where moisture keeps them rubbery.
- Seed Corns – Seed corns are tiny, round corns that generally form on the bottoms of the feet. These corns may appear individually or in clusters but are usually painless.
- Vascular or Neurovascular Corns – These corns contain both nerve endings and blood vessels, making them highly sensitive and prone to bleeding if cut. Due to their composition, vascular or neurovascular corns are often painful and require extra care, with podiatrist guidance recommended for safe removal and management.
- Fibrous Corns: – Fibrous corns attach more firmly to the tissue beneath the skin’s surface, which can make them more painful than other types.
- Subungual Corns – These are formed beneath the toenail, which makes them hard to detect and remove. As the corn presses against the nail, it causes pain, much like an ingrown toenail.
- Plantar Calluses – These are the most common, forming on weight-bearing areas of the soles, such as the ball of the foot or heel.
- Pinch Calluses – These are formed along the edges of the toes, where the skin is pinched or compressed by tight shoes. Often found on the little toe or the edge of the big toe, they are hard, localised, and can be painful due to continuous pressure.
Without proper care, it may begin to interfere with simple activities like walking or standing.
At East Coast Podiatry, we specialise in diagnosing and managing foot conditions caused by pressure, friction, and biomechanical issues — helping patients walk comfortably again.

What are the Common Causes of Corns and Calluses?
Corns and calluses typically develop when your skin tries to protect itself from repeated friction or pressure.
- Tight or ill-fitting shoes
- Loose footwear causing friction
- Walking or standing for long periods
- Foot deformities (e.g. bunions, hammertoes)
- Abnormal walking patterns
- Walking without socks
- Reduced sensation in feet (e.g. neuropathy)
Symptoms Checklist
Signs You May Have Corns or Calluses. You may notice:
- Thickened or hardened patches of skin
- Small raised bumps (corns) or broad rough areas (calluses)
- Pain or tenderness when walking or wearing shoes
- Yellowish thick skin
- Cracked heels or skin
- Discomfort that worsens with pressure
Corns, in particular, can cause sharp pain due to pressure on deeper tissues, while calluses may become painful as they thicken or crack.
If symptoms persist, the condition may progress from inflammation to long-term tissue damage. Please check with our podiatrists if you experience any of the symptoms above.
Why Professional Treatment Matters?
It may be tempting to remove corns and calluses on your own.
However, doing so could lead to several complications, including :
- Worsening an existing infection
- Increasing the size of the affected area
- Cutting too deeply and causing more pain or injury
- Missing underlying problem areas, leading to recurrence
- Slower and more complicated healing
Proper treatment significantly improves outcomes and reduces recovery time.
How We Help You Recover From Corns & Calluses
Methods to Relieve Effectively Remove Corns and Calluses
Your recovery plan is tailored based on your condition, lifestyle, and severity of symptoms.
Options may include:
Customised Orthotics
Customised orthotics provide targeted support to the feet, helping to redistribute pressure more evenly and reduce stress on areas prone to severe corns.
Foot Corn Removal and Callus Debriding
Targeted debridement gently removes hardened skin which helps relieve pressure and helps prevent recurrence.
Swift® Microwave Therapy
In the event the condition is not corn or callus but plantar warts, we offer Swift® Microwave Therapy. This unique therapy rapidly heats the affected tissue in seconds using microwave energy, not only treating the physical lesion but also stimulating the body’s natural immune system to clear the wart infection from within.

Corn & Callus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Get The Answers You Need
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions you may have about Corns and Calluses.
If you still can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just contact us.
What is a foot callus?
A foot callus is a thickened, hardened patch of skin that forms in response to repeated pressure or friction. Commonly found on the soles, ball of the foot, or heel, calluses act as a protective barrier but can become uncomfortable if they grow too thick. Typically dry and rough in texture, they are less sensitive than surrounding skin. Regular care helps manage calluses and prevent further discomfort.
What is a foot corn?
A foot corn is a small, thickened area of skin that develops due to repeated pressure or friction. They often form on the toes, the ball of the foot, or other areas that experience consistent rubbing. Corns can be hard or soft, with hard corns commonly appearing on the top or sides of toes, while soft corns often develop between toes where the skin stays moist. Although small, corns can cause significant discomfort or pain, particularly when walking or standing for long periods..
Are foot corns the same as calluses?
Foot corns and calluses are often confused as being the same thing, but they are different. Corns are smaller, rounder areas of thickened skin that typically develop on the top or sides of your toes. Their formation is in response to pressure or friction and can press into deeper layers of skin, causing discomfort or pain. Calluses on the other hand are larger and tend to spread over broader areas such as the soles where weight is distributed. Unlike corns, calluses are generally painless, though they can feel uncomfortable if they become too thick.
Are foot corns contagious?
No, foot corns are not contagious.
They develop from repeated pressure or friction on the skin, which causes the area to thicken over time.
However, corns can sometimes be mistaken for plantar warts. While they may look similar, plantar warts often have tiny black specks within them, known as "wart seeds", which are not seen in corns.
Unlike corns, plantar warts are caused by a viral infection and can spread. Corns, on the other hand, are linked to external factors such as poorly fitting footwear or foot structure. Because they are not caused by viruses or bacteria, corns cannot be passed from person to person.
Can I remove a foot corn myself?
Foot corns are best addressed by a podiatrist during a professional consultation. Using sterile instruments, the podiatrist will safely remove the thickened skin to relieve pressure and discomfort. They will also examine the underlying cause, such as footwear choices or structural foot issues, and provide advice to help prevent the corn from coming back. Attempting to remove a foot corn at home on your own (bathroom surgery) is not recommended, as improper methods can lead to infection or further complications.
