I had a few podiatry treatments done out of 10. The male and female nurses are very good. 25/2 nurse Rochelle recommended the tape on me after the treatment which I felt extremely wonderful. I felt my knees like nothing had happened. Walking very comfortably with the tape after treatment.

I visited East Podiatry in Novena about three months ago as I was experiencing sharp pain on my left heel. It was affecting my running and walking. During my first consultation, Jordan accurately diagnosed the condition as Achilles tendonitis and recommended a shock wave therapy.. fast forward that three months later, the pain has dissipated. I am now able to resume my running. Jordan is very helpful and attuned to his patients' needs. I am a barefoot runner and he acknowledged that switching to regular shoes will not do me any good. I appreciate his frank advice. He also recommended exercises to help me with strengthening my toes and plantar muscles so as to prevent the Achilles tendonitis from recurring. His assistant, Ashley performed the shock wave treatment with precision and skills, as well. Overall, I am very happy with the treatment and service.

NewGreat experience at East Coast Podiatry (Orchard)! Had a persistent nail fungus issue over the last couple of years and it was solved so quickly and efficiently with the team. My podiatrist - Ms Peggy explained and assessed my condition in great detail, and recommended me the follow up actions required to get the issue all treated. Was an overall superb and pleasant treatment experience 🙂

We have been with Gerorgina for my daughter in-toes and flat foot issue. Gone through a thorough treatment, exercises, feet braces and we can see massive improvement in my daughter's posture and feet.
Georgina and the staff have been very helpful and making every visit smooth and pleasant. Keep up the good work!

Our 6-year-old son had very severe in-toeing when we first visited Dr. Michael in October 2024. We’re incredibly thankful for his expertise—after just 8 months of treatment, our son is now very close to having an ideal foot structure.
What we appreciated most was the all-in-one pricing—it covered everything from braces to follow-ups, making the treatment both convenient and great value for money. The clinic’s location in Orchard is also a big plus for accessibility. Highly recommend Dr. Michael, especially for concerned parents dealing with pediatric foot issues!

What That Bump on Your Big Toe Really Means
You may have noticed a bony bump forming on the side of your big toe. Known as a bunion, or hallux valgus, this condition often signals a structural imbalance in your foot. Although it may initially appear harmless, a bunion can gradually impact your foot’s natural movement and add strain to nearby areas. Over time, inflammation from this misalignment can lead to persistent pain, making daily activities like walking or even standing feel challenging.
What are the Common Causes of Bunion?
Bunions and bunionettes form gradually due to ongoing pressure on the toe joints. A bunion develops when the big toe leans toward the second toe, creating a bump near the big toe joint. A bunionette develops in a similar way at the base of the little toe, along the outer side of the foot.
- Foot Shape: Certain inherited foot structures can increase bunion risk.
- Poorly Fitting Shoes: Tight, narrow, or high-heeled shoes contribute to pressure and deformity.
- Genetics: Family history plays a significant role in predisposition.
- Medical Conditions: Arthritis and other health issues can affect joint integrity.
- Physical Activities: Repetitive stress or certain sports may exacerbate symptoms.
Symptoms Checklist
Bunions can cause a range of symptoms that affect your comfort and mobility. Recognising these signs early is important for effective management and preventing further discomfort. Here are some of the most frequent symptoms to watch out for.
- Visible bony bump at the base of the big toe (1st MTP joint).
- Stiffness or discomfort in the big toe joint.
- Aching or throbbing pain, especially during movement or bending of the toe.
- Swelling and redness, inflammation.
- Corns or calluses from friction caused by tight footwear.
- Possible development of hammer toes in other toes.
Early intervention is key. Speak with our podiatrists to accurately identify any underlying structural issues.

Why You Should Not Ignore Bunion Pain
What Happens If Bunions Are Left Untreated?
Over time:
- Pain becomes more frequent and severe
- Walking patterns change, causing knee, hip, or back issues
- The condition may progress into long-term tissue damage
- Recovery becomes slower and more complex
Early intervention significantly improves outcomes and reduces recovery time.

Get The Answers You Need
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions you may have about Bunion Pain.
If you still can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just contact us
What is a bunion?
A bunion is a bony protrusion at the base of the big toe where the toe pushes against the adjacent toe. It often causes pain, redness, and swelling. A related condition, bunionette (or “Tailor’s Bunion”), affects the little toe joint on the outer foot.
What causes bunions and bunionettes?
Bunions usually arise from a mix of genetic factors, inherited foot shapes (such as flat feet or low arches), and lifestyle factors like wearing tight or high-heeled shoes. Foot injuries, arthritis, and prolonged pressure from certain activities can also contribute.
How do I know if my pain is from a bunion or something else?
Pain with a visible bump on the big toe joint that worsens with pressure or poor footwear is likely bunion-related. Other conditions like gout, bursitis, sesamoiditis, or ganglion cysts have different symptoms, so a podiatric assessment is essential for accurate diagnosis.
How to prevent a bunion?
Here are some preventive measures you ought to take to prevent bunions:
Avoid tight-fitting footwear
Wear wider, comfortable shoes instead
Maintain a healthy body weight
Do foot exercises regularly
Will my bunion go away on its own?
Bunions do not resolve without treatment. However, symptom management options include cushioned pads, toe separators, custom orthotics, and splints. In severe cases, medical intervention or surgery may be recommended.
Why are hammer toes and other toe deformities linked to bunions?
Bunions do not resolve without treatment. However, symptom management options include cushioned pads, toe separators, custom orthotics, and splints. In severe cases, medical intervention or surgery may be recommended.
